Positive Fandom: #FightforTVC Petition is Live!
In the last two weeks, the #BackTVC and #FightforTVC campaigns have picked up traction across the Star Wars collecting community.
Taking the lead, ace fan site Banthaskull has launched a petition asking Hasbro to produce more new 3.75″ Star Wars figures per year. And impressively, at just two days old, the petition already has over 3,700 signatures.
Of course, Vintage Collection collectors know that’s not without precedent. The crowdfunding initiative for the 3.75″ scaled Khetanna, AKA Jabba’s Sail Barge, not only hit 9,000 backers; it was also the only genuine success of Haslab’s short tenure.
And this was despite it only being available to US customers and coming with a price tag of $500.
So there’s undoubtedly a demand for more 3.75” action figures. That’s what this campaign needs to tap into.
Still, it’s a bold move by Banthaskull. Should the petition not go as planned, it could risk having the opposite effect and making the demand seem smaller than it is. Yet with just under 4,000 signatures in two days, it’s fair to say that we’re off to a positive start.
That’s thanks to the community pulling together. As Banthaskull has reported, the #BackTVC and #FightforTVC campaign has seen support from:
- Dan Curto
- Victoria’s Cantina
- Jedi Temple Archives
And hundreds more across social media. Meanwhile, Bossk’s Bounty has posted videos and live streams to help bolster community engagement on this side of the pond.
It’s been a great flurry of community activity – and it’s one of those rare times in recent years that I’ve actually been proud to be a Star Wars lifer.
So, if you haven’t done it yet, go now – sign the petition – and let Hasbro know that they’ve still got the customers who want to buy 3.75” Star Wars figures.
Whether it works or not is almost academic. At this point it’s about the community as much as anything else.
