The (Curated) Star Wars Video Game Timeline

The (Curated) Star Wars Video Game Timeline

It was a time of Legends…

With so many Lucasarts-era Star Wars games still available from sites like you may be looking for a Kenobi-like guide to which releases go where. After all, this is the discontinued “Legends” canon we’re talking about, encompassing several decades of stories across multiple platforms. There are a lot of pieces to fit together.

This is where the curated Star Wars video game timeline can help you.

Why is it curated? Well, there are many, many more Star Wars games out there than the ones we’ve featured below. However, these are the stories and experiences that add to the greater lore of the galaxy far, far away. These are the games that, for better or worse, feel like Star Wars.

If this is your first time dealing with the Legends timeline you’ll need a quick primer on the navigational legend:

  • BBY means Before the Battle of Yavin
  • ABY means After the Battle of Yavin

This makes the Yavin IV conflict your baseline when it comes to Star Wars – and if you don’t know what that is? Well, in that case, I can recommend a pretty neat film you should watch…

And as for the New Canon Star Wars Video Game Timeline?

There’s no need for a new canon Star Wars video game timeline just yet – after all, between two era-spanning Battlefront games and Jedi: Fallen Order it’s pretty easy to place events sequentially.

But just because the events of these games might not directly line up with any new Star Wars stories, it doesn’t make them any less enjoyable or worthy of your time – in fact, there are some truly classic Star Wars experiences listed above.

If you’re new to Star Wars gaming I thoroughly recommend picking a genre you like the look of and getting stuck in.
